The Pyramids

"From the top of these pyramids, forty centuries contemplate you," said the Emperor Napoleon during the Egyptian campaign. If they were only mistaken for a few centuries, it must be said that it is astonishing that one of the very first civilizations that humanity knew was able to build pyramids of stones almost 150m high, without 'They don't collapse on themselves ... while fitting out numerous galleries and underground rooms.
Here is the story of these pyramids. It is part of the history of Egypt between the beginning of the Old Empire and the end of the second intermediate period, with a peak during the old empire. The period of the pyramids, it is thus essentially the old empire.
The pyramids, these colossal structures made of stone, are monuments well known to everyone.
The best known of course are those from Egypt, such as Giza or Cheops, which are popular tourist spots.
However, few people really know its origin and its usefulness.
In ancient times, religion was omnipresent and the pharaohs did not lack that.
The pyramids were built to serve as tombs for the pharaohs to help them reach their gods.
It is for their eternal rest that the pyramids have the reputation of being impenetrable.
Not all pyramids are Egyptian, however the other pyramids, such as the Aztec pyramids, served as religious temples as well as tombs.
There are of course exceptions such as the Louvre Pyramid which houses the very famous museum of the same name.
